Commentary: The Console Wars, Or Why We Should All Stop Hating And Get Along

Editor's Note: While Bro Planet is mainly a (pretty awesome) gaming news blog, I also publish articles containing my own opinions, which are not to be confused with facts. Pointing out these opinions, and calling them opinions is hazardous to your intelligence, and is not recommended.

I'm aware that many of my readers (especially the PC bros) already agree with what I have to say in terms of why the Console Wars are ridiculous. Most of the time when we talk trash on the internet about consoles, we're just being dickbags or trolls. But you have to remember that there are plenty of Sonybros who still have a deepseated hatred for Xbros, and vice versa. People have been bitching about NOGAEMZ and Halo for years, and it really has to stop. Sure, plenty of you will say that nobody talks about that kind of stuff anymore, but I'm sure that we all know at least a handful of friends, students, or co-workers who think that the PS3 has no good games, or that the Xbox only has brown shootan games with no depth. People just have to free their minds and get over themselves.

XBOX HAS RED RINGS OF DEATH

Oh, is it 2006 again? I didn't realize. Come on guys, if you think this, you clearly don't follow gaming news very closely.

PS3 HAS NO GAMES (not)

There, I wanted to get that one out of the way first. Before people start calling me a fanboy, I would like to point out that I own every console but the wii (and a $1300 gaming PC to boot). People tend to say that if the PS3 has any games, it's only recently that it's gotten them. This is just not true. The Playstation 3 had great titles from launch day, and although many of them were ports, there was one of my personal favorites included at launch, Resistance: The Fall of Man. Admittedly, the Playstation had a bit of a dryspell until it got Uncharted, but things only went uphill from there with Metal Gear Solid, Killzone 2, the duo of Ratchet and Clank games, Infamous, and of course God of War 3.

THE XBOX HAS UGLY GRAPHICS (not)

Once again, I can personally vouch for the integrity of the Xbox's ability to generate good looking games, even after 5 years. Although the Xbox 360 is technically inferior to the PS3, developers clearly have developed great systems that allow them to pull of graphical masterpieces on this platform on a regular basis. Gears of War 2 has some of the best textures I have ever seen in a game to this day, as well as top notch lighting and particle effects. Mass Effect 2 is one of the best looking PC games ever made, and it doesn't look much worse on Xbox. Despite what people say, Halo 3 and Halo Reach are both quite good looking games. It's not easy to render a good looking game with motion blur at 60 frames per second, and that's something that people tend to forget.

PSN IS BETTER THAN LIVE BECAUSE IT'S FREE (not, they're different, and good in their own respects)

There is definitely a trade-off in life between price and quality, even children know that. PSN may be free, but it certainly does have it's drawbacks. While PSN saves you $50 over Live, it tends to have a lot of server outages, and you have to pay for EVERYTHING that's not completely necessary to use it...and then there's PS Home. Xbox Live is a bit costly per year, but has a lot of really great features. Xbox Live Arcade has some really fun games, as well as an Indie section, and a retro classics arcade with some real oldies. Furthermore, Xbox Live tends to get more DLC support for it's games, which is a plus if you're into that kind of stuff....but then there are those god damned avatars....

So if you already agreed more or less with what I had to say, more power to you. People really have to get over themselves and admit that a computer is a computer. Sure, one might be a bit different then the other, but does that make one better or worse? It just makes them different. So remember guys, keep an open mind, and quit trolling the internet about this shit, it's annoying as hell.
