Study: 98 Percent of Australians Support an R18+ Rating

For those of you who don't know, many nations around the world have a tendency to censor games for various social or political reasons. Australia is one of these nations, and for years they have rejected all games that fail to reach the requirements of a "R16+" rating. This means that games like Gears of War and Fallout 3 have failed to make it into their country uncensored due to their government's fascist policies.
Recently however, there has been a lot of talk about the Aussie ratings board allowing an "R18+" rating, meaning that games would have a much better chance of making it through the censors into that great nation of Australia. Despite many politicians saying that the people don't want an R18+ rating, the Federal Home Affairs group of Australia has released a study saying that over 98% of Australian Citizens surveyed are in favor of the R18+ rating.
You also have to take into account that over 55,000 Australians gave input to the survey, meaning that the information most likely represents the general state of mind of most of the country. Many groups do oppose the rating, including the Australian Christian Lobby and the Australian Council on Children and the Media. In order for the rating to actually be introduced, Australian officials throughout the country must all agree, and no decision has yet been made.
